Arsenal vs Coventry City: Who is the referee? Premier League match officials confirmed

Arsenal's 2026/27 Premier League campaign gets underway this Friday when Mikel Arteta's men host Coventry City at the Emirates.

Nine months of blood, sweat and tears are set to unfold, as the Gunners look to retain their crown. The North London club haven't won back-to-back league titles since the 1930s, providing Mikel Arteta's team with the opportunity to go down in history this season.

It's crucial that the Spaniard's side set the tone with their performance on opening night. A drab display against a newly promoted side is likely to sour the mood heading into huge fixtures against Aston Villa and Chelsea in the coming weeks, and negative results in these games could set Arsenal back significantly.

Thankfully for Arteta, the atmosphere around N5 is jubilant at the moment after last weekend's emphatic Community Shield victory over Manchester City. This positive mood music should feed into the opening day, in what should be a joyous occasion at the Emirates as supporters celebrate the Champions homecoming.

However, you never know what could influence the vibes around the stadium. A conentious early decision from the officials against Arsenal could sway the feeling around the ground.

With that said, here’s a look at the Premier League’s pick for the match officials for Arsenal vs Coventry.

The Premier League have announced that Tom Bramall will be the referee in charge of Arsenal's match against Coventry.

Bramall officiated just one of the Gunners' league matches last season, overseeing their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates back in October - a game decided by an outstanding goal from Eberechi Eze. This affair had very little in the way of controversial incidents, so Bramall has done little in recent times to turn the Arsenal supporters against him.

The only other Arsenal match he oversaw last season was the Gunners' 2-1 win over Mansfield in the FA Cup, another relatively standard and unnoteworthy occasion.

Bramall has only been a Premier League referee since 2022 after working his way up through the various levels and has officiated just two Arsenal games throughout his career.

In these two games, he’s handed the Gunners two yellow cards, no red cards and no penalties.

Having spent a greater portion of his career officiating in the Football League, Bramall has a larger portfolio of matches overseeing Coventry. He has officiated seven of the Sky Blues' games, giving them 13 yellow cards, no red cards, and one penalty in the process.

Alongside Bramall as the referee will be his assistants, Gary Beswick, Mat Wilkes and Adam Herczeg, with the former two running the line and the latter the fourth official.

In the VAR room at Stockley Park, Jarred Gillett will oversee the game, with Neil Davies assisting him.
