Former Arsenal Player of the Season is now set to join Thierry Henry’s old club

Few players in the Emirates era carried Arsenal like Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean forward, now 37, is set to sign a two-year contract with Montreal after leaving Sevilla at the end of last season.

Montreal, of course, is the club where Thierry Henry cut his teeth as a manager, spending a couple of years at the helm between 2019 and 2021 before departing.

Arriving from Barcelona in the summer of 2014, Sanchez instantly became the attacking heartbeat of Arsene Wenger’s side.

Across 166 appearances for Arsenal, Alexis registered a staggering 80 goals and 45 assists, playing with a street-football-like style and a ferocious tenacity that made him a fan favourite among the Emirates terraces.

He won two FA Cups with the club, scoring in both finals at Wembley, as well as a Community Shield.

Sanchez was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season in his debut season (2014-15) and was so again in 2016-17, which turned out to be his last full campaign at the Emirates.

During his time with the Gunners, he was arguably the most dynamic and exciting player in the Premier League, often in debates with Eden Hazard.

His move to Manchester United in January 2018 has left a sour taste for the majority of fans, some of whom will never forgive him for.

But there’s no doubt that his world-class quality and intensity carried the club’s attack at times.

Having spent 18 seasons in Europe, collecting 14 trophies across Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter Milan, Sanchez is set for a new chapter in North America.
