Three standout players from Arsenal's hard-fought win over stubborn Napoli

Arsenal overcame a stubborn Napoli side to secure a 1-0 victory in their opening game of the Champions League campaign on Wednesday evening.

The Gunners dominated practically the entire match, but struggled to break through the hosts' resilient setup until Martin Ødegaard struck what proved to be the winning goal late on. He combined well with his teammates to receive a lay-off and fire an effort in off the post.

Mikel Arteta oversaw yet another very good all-round performance from his team as they controlled the play from start to finish, but as always there were three that stood out among the rest.

Every game, it looks like Martin Ødegaard can't get any better, but he is. His renaissance period has really fired his game to a whole new level and his performance at Napoli was no different.

The skipper was by far the most influential player on the pitch, creating six chances and playing an incredible 91 accurate passes with 121 touches in total.

He capped his superb showing with an expertly taken strike from the edge that proved to be the winner for his side, continuing Arsenal's and his individual brilliant start to the season.

Remaining the starter on the right side of the central defensive pairing alongside Gabriel, Ezri Konsa showed once again why the Gunners were right to sign him in the summer.

He did everything he needed to do right, defending the channels and keeping Napoli's attack at bay while also playing each of his 54 passes accurately.

Konsa's best moment came when he was faced with the danger of Alisson Santos racing into the box, but he stood firm to deny entry and clear the danger.

If there is anyone out there who still thinks Declan Rice isn't one of the best midfielders in the world, they should probably keep a closer eye on him this season.

The England international was brilliant in the middle of the park once again as he helped control the play and keep Napoli at bay for practically the entire game. He completed the most passes out of anyone on the pitch, playing 92 accurately.

It was one moment that summed Rice's character and presence on the pitch though as deep into stoppage time, he prevented a Napoli counterattack and celebrated like he'd scored before seeing out the remaining minutes to seal the win.
