The first of those matches comes against Georgia on 25 September 2026, followed by a fixture against Hungary on 28 September 2026.

A competitive appearance in either of those matches would permanently close the door on any potential switch to the Republic of Ireland.

If O’Neill does not feature competitively for Northern Ireland in those games, the Republic could still make a move to recruit the Arsenal youngster.

However, any switch to the Republic of Ireland would be equally irreversible, ending any possibility of him ever returning to the Northern Ireland setup.
