Arsenal agree deal to sign versatile forward, medical scheduled today

Blackburn Rovers forward Igor Tyjon is set to undergo his medical today with Arsenal ahead of a permanent transfer, according to RoversXtra.

The England Under-18 international has been a long-term target for the Gunners, and they were first interested in his services last summer.

The Gunners viewed him as a competitor to striker Andre Harriman-Annous in the Under-21 set-up. The club have finally secured an agreement.

As per RoversXtra, Arsenal will pay £1.2 million up front for the 18-year-old with a further £2m in add-ons. A 20 percent sell-on clause will be included as part of the transfer.

Arsenal set to sign Tyjon from Blackburn after lengthy saga

Tyjon is primarily a centre-forward by trade, but can also operate as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing. Arsenal ideally wanted to bring him to the club last summer, but they could not reach a suitable agreement with Blackburn.

This has undoubtedly hampered the youngster’s progress, given he managed just one senior appearance in the first round of the Carabao Cup against Bradford City last term. The teenager played 64 minutes as a number 10 in a 2-1 loss at Ewood Park.

Tyjon did not feature for the Rovers in the Championship, which was very much expected, given he had made up his mind to move on. The club extended his scholarship deal by another 12 months earlier this year and have now permitted his sale to the Gunners.

It remains to be seen whether Tyjon manages to make the most of the opportunity with Arsenal. He will likely be slotted straight into the Under-21 squad, and only time will tell whether the versatile forward can make the right progress to break into the first-team.
