Ange Postecoglou Closes In On Tottenham Hotspur Mole Leaking Team News Before Matches

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed the club has been dealing with an internal leak of team information throughout the entire season.

The problem came to a head before Thursday’s Europa League quarterfinal first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Spurs’ home ground.

Wilson Odobert’s absence from the starting lineup was leaked well before the official team announcement, despite the player actually being passed fit and named as an unused substitute.

Postecoglou addressed the situation directly on Friday, leaving no doubt about his belief that someone inside the camp is deliberately passing information to the press.

“There is no doubt we’ve got a leak inside the club,” Postecoglou said. “Someone continues to leak out information and they have all year. I don’t know why as it just makes our job even more difficult. It doesn’t help us as you don’t want to give the opposition a helping hand.”

The Spurs manager revealed he has narrowed down the list of potential suspects and suggested he already has a strong idea of where the information is coming from.

“We’ve narrowed it down. I’ve got a fair idea where it’s coming from. We will deal with it. It certainly doesn’t help us on game days. It’s sometimes half-truths and sometimes more. You’d like to think that everyone within our camp is working with us rather than against us.”

Postecoglou ruled out using a Colleen Rooney-style trap of feeding false information to specific individuals, instead favouring a more straightforward approach to identifying the culprit.

“No. It’s a simple process. You just look where the information goes and it’s pretty easy to figure out,” he said. “There’s always a bit of detective work in football management. I think it’s a cultural thing. I’m big on creating a culture of success and I don’t think successful organisations behave in that manner.”

When pressed on which fictional detective best described his investigative style, the Australian manager offered a characteristically direct and humorous answer.

“Jack Reacher. Just get out the big bat and pummel people!” he said with a smile, making clear his no-nonsense approach to resolving the issue.

The leak saga adds further pressure to what has already been an extremely difficult season for Postecoglou, with Spurs sitting in 14th place in the Premier League table.

Despite their poor domestic form, Tottenham remain in European contention, though the 1-1 home draw against Eintracht Frankfurt leaves them with work to do in the second leg.

Separately, Spurs announced on Friday that former Arsenal chief executive officer Vinai Venkatesham will be joining the club’s board in the coming summer.
