What Gabriel Martinelli’s camp are now telling Arsenal about being sold is a big problem for Andrea Berta

Gabriel Martinelli could well end up leaving Arsenal at some point this summer but it looks like it’s going to be very much on his own terms.

Martinelli is essentially up for sale at Arsenal and with Mikel Arteta keen on adding a new wide forward, the Brazilian could well be shown the door.

There has been interest in Martinelli from both Turkey and Italy. However, no bid worth considering has come just yet.

Now, though, it seems Martinelli himself has complicated matters further by sending his representatives to deliver a clear message to the Gunners.

Gabriel Martinelli has told Arsenal he will not sign for a Turkish club

Player power seems to becoming more and more common in football and it looks like Martinelli is exercising some of his over his future.

Despite interest from some big clubs and particularly strong interest from Galatasaray, Martinelli is making things hard for Arsenal.

According to David Ornstein, Martinelli’s camp have instructed Arsenal that he will simply not entertain the idea of moving to Turkey.

Ornstein reports a bid of around £40m has come in and Arsenal were willing to enter discussions.

However, Martinelli has now made his stance clear.

Andrea Berta has to get a grip on transfer outgoings

While it is ultimately down to Martinelli where he goes and Galatasaray to convince him otherwise, Andrea Berta – and the club in general – cannot let players dictate too much.

Yes, players have every right to have a say in things but this potential deal looked golden for Arsenal and it appears it’s been shot down before it even got going.

Clearly, Martinelli is playing a few of his cards right now. But Berta needs to get on top of this and while he can’t force Martinelli out, he can lay the groundwork to convince him.

Arsenal have to be better at selling players. The same has been said for years now.

If a potential £40m is on the table here and it doesn’t happen because the player is deciding things, then it’s an issue Arsenal need to sort quickly.
