‘Outstanding' player could already leave Arsenal just 49 days after signing for the club

‘Outstanding' player could already leave Arsenal just 49 days after signing for the club

Arsenal have only made three new signings this summer.

Bruno Guimaraes was the biggest of them all, while Christos Tzolis has impressed the most since pre-season began.

The first signing Arsenal made, however, was Illan Meslier on a free transfer after his contract expired at Leeds United.

Now, the Frenchman could be on the move already.

Marseille want to sign Illan Meslier from Arsenal

It has been just 49 days since Arsenal signed Meslier.

The Gunners announced the goalkeeper’s arrival on the 9th of July, and he was expected to become the club’s third-choice goalkeeper.

However, Olympique Marseille have suddenly taken an interest in him.

That’s according to Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, who has revealed that the Ligue 1 giants have made Meslier one of their key targets for the goalkeeper position.

The journalist tweeted: “Illan Meslier is one of Olympique Marseille’s active leads for the goalkeeper position in the final stretch of the transfer window.

“Marseille still need to trim the squad before they can make concrete progress on this file.”

It is unclear whether any deal would be a loan or a permanent transfer, but it is really strange that Meslier could join two clubs in the span of 49 days.

It also remains to be seen if Arsenal would be willing to let him go, as that would directly have an impact on the futures of Tommy Setford and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The transfer window shuts on Tuesday, so there is still a lot of time to decide.
