Mikel Arteta delivers double Arsenal injury boost in four-player update ahead of Chelsea

Mikel Arteta delivers double Arsenal injury boost in four-player update ahead of Chelsea

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking to make it three wins from three in the Premier League

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed Cristhian Mosquera's hamstring issue was more a "precaution" while Jurrien Timber is finally closing in on a return to action in a major boost for the Gunners.

Mosquera started Monday night's 1-0 win at Aston Villa before later being withdrawn for Ezri Konsa and Arteta noted the Spanish defender is still being assessed.

He said ahead of hosting Chelsea on Sunday: "He was more a precaution than anything else, so we'll have to see tomorrow in the session how he feels."

Meanwhile, full-back Timber is yet to kick a ball this season after undergoing a minor procedure on his groin during the summer.

However, he was pictured in light training on Thursday and Arteta has now indicated he has an outside chance of making the squad this weekend, explaining: "Yeah, he's in really good condition at the moment. As I said, he's been now a few weeks on the pitch and he's been training with us now, so he's in a good place."

There appears to be a chance Bruno Guimaraes could miss out though after sustaining another knock against Villa, though Arteta hopes he'll recover in time to play.

The Brazilian also set out of the opening 3-0 victory over Coventry City after picking up a problem in the Community Shield thrashing of Manchester City.

Arteta added: "Yeah, he had a knock against Villa in the previous game and he's been assessed. Hopefully tomorrow he will be okay for training."

Neither Mosquera or Guimaraes were among snapped training at London Colney on Thursday.

Meanwhile, centre-back William Saliba was named in Arsenal's 25-man Premier League squad and Champions League squad, respectively.

It has offered hope that the Frenchman will be back before January, when squads are resubmitted, as he continues to rest his serious back issue sustained at the World Cup.

Cristhian Mosquera is doubtful for Arsenal vs Chelsea

Arteta said when quizzed on whether there was an update: "Yes, we don't really know the amount of weeks he's going to be out because it's about a healing process in the beginning, it's a bit different.

"We know that we have to respect certain timings. The progression has been really positive in the last few weeks, but we need to wait and see how that one reaction will start to put a lot into it.

Arsenal and Chelsea are one of only four Premier League sides to have won both of their fixtures so far this season.

They met each other four times across all competitions last season and the Gunners won three of those meetings, drawing the other.
