Arsenal tipped to make Rodrygo 'statement signing' after deadline day failure

Arsenal have not landed the marquee forward to their ranks that many had hoped during the summer transfer window. The Gunners have looked to sign some of the World’s top stars during the window; however, they have sadly been unsuccessful in their attempts.

Julian Alavarez, Vinicius Junior and Morgan Rogers were the big trio, but have either gone elsewhere or decided, for now, to stay put. It is not to say Arsenal have not tried, however, they have not avoided being labelled as failures in their mission to bring in the level-raisers beyond Bruno Guimaraes.

This has therefore become the main talking point of this week’s Seeing Red unofficial Arsenal podcast. Our hosts Tom Canton and John Cross however have looked ahead of discussed who they think will be the name which could emerge over the next six months through to January and into the following summer transfer window.

“I'm going to put you on the spot slightly, so I apologise in advance,” Canton said. “If there's a name you think coming up in the next, in January, off the top of your head, I've got one in my head, not just for January, but maybe next summer that we've not mentioned that I think could be a player that comes up on the radar for Arsenal. Do you have one or do you want me to go first?

Cross replied, caught a little off guard, “You go first!”

“Rodrygo, Real Madrid, Brazilian, currently out injured at the moment with that knee injury,” Canton said. “He's not expected back until January for Real Madrid.

“They've signed Yan Diomande. They obviously got the other youngster, who’s gone on to Fiorentina, Mastantuono as well. Arda Goula, obviously, they rate incredibly highly on a wide position. Fede Valverde has played in a wide position. They've got Vini Junior, obviously, staying.

“Kylian Mbappe can play in a wide area. We know their longstanding interest in Erling Haaland for the future.

“I think Rodrygo, who has also been of interest to Arsenal in the past, is maybe somebody that they might look at either this January if fit, which is a big question. Certainly, if not next summer, I think Rodrygo is the one to keep an eye on.”

Cross replied, “Yeah, no, that's interesting actually, because also it would be a statement signing, I must say. And I think along those lines, you suddenly look at, I don't know who might be available from the sort of kind of European super clubs. That's what Arteta says, pushing the needle.

“And I think that my first inclination would definitely be to go to Eli Junior Kroupi. I think his movement, his fluidity, his versatility, because he can play wide and also run through the middle. I think Rayan is also a very exciting player.

“My word, there's scouting there... So I think then that probably at this stage, I think it would be Kroupi.”
