Max Allegri admits Arsenal “are a great side.” after Champions League match

Max Allegri got the chance to experience what it feels like to face Arsenal as his Napoli side were dominated and beaten at home by the Gunners in the Champions League last night.

Mikel Arteta’s side were in the Champions League final just weeks before the 2026 World Cup began and lost it to PSG, so they are one of the best teams on the continent.

Arsenal are doing their best to ensure the team stays fit and firing in all competitions as the Gunners look to get back into contention for the biggest honours again this term.

They have remained one of the best clubs in the world under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, and the manager is keen to ensure they do not lose that edge.

Allegri Faces Arsenal Challenge

For Allegri, he was tasked with stopping one of the best teams on the continent with his Napoli side, which he only started managing this campaign and has endured an inconsistent start to the season.

The manager did his best, but conceded that Arsenal are a superb team. He also recognised that Napoli needed to be more patient and improve technically after struggling during the first half.

Arsenal controlled much of the contest and created enough problems to secure the victory, leaving Allegri to acknowledge the quality of the opposition after the match.

Allegri Praises Arsenal Quality

Allegri said via Standard Sport:

“Arsenal are a great team. We needed to be patient in not conceding.

“We raised our level. We could’ve not conceded and we could’ve scored.

“We need to analyse our mistakes. The first half we could’ve done better on a technical level.

“But Arsenal put in a great performance to be able to score. They are a great side.”

Allegri’s comments show how highly he rates Arsenal after experiencing their quality first-hand. Napoli improved as the match progressed, but Arsenal had already established control and ultimately secured an important Champions League victory.

For Arsenal, the result provides another indication of their strength in European football. Arteta will now hope his team can maintain the same level of performance throughout the season as they continue their pursuit of major honours.

The Gunners have started their Champions League campaign with a statement victory, while Napoli must now analyse their mistakes and find ways to improve after a difficult night at home.
