Arsenal player ratings vs Man City: Christos Tzolis shines but 9.5/10 star was even better

Arsenal have just beaten Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield.

The Gunners started the game brilliantly, with Riccardo Calafiori scoring after just 24 seconds to give his side the lead. Kai Havertz then doubled the score with a good header before the break.

Then, right after half-time, Martin Odegaard made it three with a composed finish from close range, and that was enough to seal the win.

Here are our player ratings…

Arsenal player ratings vs Manchester City in the Community Shield

David Raya: 8.5/10

It’s just so reassuring when David Raya is in goal for Arsenal, isn’t it? The Spaniard intercepted a few crosses well and pulled off a fine save to deny Erling Haaland in the first half. He repeated that late in the game to stop a fierce strike from Antoine Semenyo as well. Number one for a reason!

Ben White: 7.5

Ben White had a mixed game. Jeremy Doku caused him a few problems early on, but he got better as the game went on and made a crucial block to deny City from scoring. Needs to stay fit this season.

Cristhian Mosquera: 6.5/10

Cristhian Mosquera has been tasked with filling William Saliba’s shoes, and he was not bad at all. However, when pressed, the Spaniard seemed to rush a few of his passes, and that lack of composure is not ideal.

Gabriel Magalhaes: 7.5/10

Everyone loves a Gabriel Magalhaes vs Haaland battle, and the Brazil international got the better of the Norwegian in Cardiff. Solid display!

Riccardo Calafiori: 8.5/10

Calafiori finished off a fantastic move to give Arsenal the lead in the first minute and then had a solid game. His movement caused City problems, and he should really have scored another in the first half when he got on the end of White’s cross.

Myles Lewis-Skelly: 9/10

Can anyone believe this guy was linked with a move away in recent days? Myles Lewis-Skelly didn’t put a foot wrong in the middle of the park, and his assist for Calafiori’s goal was top class. Keep him at all costs!

Bruno Guimaraes: 8.5/10

Bruno Guimaraes made it look easy in the middle of the park. It almost felt like he had been an Arsenal player for years. Tidy in possession, always looking forward for a pass, and the way he is combining with his teammates already is a really positive sign.

Martin Odegaard: 9.5/10

Odegaard was Arsenal’s driving force from midfield. He was excellent on the ball, looked threatening in attack and then scored a fantastic goal to kill off the game. The skipper looks like he’s back to his best. Man of the Match!

Noni Madueke: 4/10

We hate to say it, but Noni Madueke was Arsenal’s worst player on the pitch by a mile. The Englishman consistently struggled to beat his man and had next to no impact in the final third.

Christos Tzolis: 9/10

Christos Tzolis is making a fine name for himself at Arsenal. After an impressive pre-season, the Greek international produced a great performance against City and picked up two smart assists. Excellent display!

Kai Havertz: 8.5/10

Mikel Arteta preferred Havertz up top, and he was brilliant. A constant threat with his movement, always linking play up and scored a lovely goal.
