£45m player has now stopped training with the Arsenal first team amid rumours he could leave

Arsenal have been busy trying to move players on this summer.

But Andrea Berta still has plenty of work to do before Tuesday’s deadline.

Gabriel Martinelli is expected to complete his move to Al Hilal, bringing a seven-year chapter at the club to an end.

Hamburg are still keen on signing Fabio Vieira following a loan spell last season, while Reiss Nelson could move to West Ham on a permanent deal.

Another anticipated departure is Gabriel Jesus.

Mikel Arteta confirmed ahead of Monday’s trip to Villa Park that the £45million striker has been absent from first-team training.

However, he did so in a typically guarded yet interesting manner. “It’s something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal manager had earlier conceded that Martinelli and Jesus both missed training due to ‘personal’ reasons.

When asked further about this Arteta acknowledged that difficult conversations were necessary before adding that he was happy with how discussions had gone.

Pressed specifically on what he meant by ‘personal situation’ in relation to Jesus in particular, he responded: “Personal situations, whatever they are. I think it’s clear.”

It is clear. Jesus is surely now leaving Arsenal.

Napoli seem to be the most serious suitors, but some reports indicated he wasn’t open to the move.

Arsenal are desperate to get his £265,000-a-week wages off the books given his place in the squad, which would go a long way in funding any move for Julian Alvarez.

Jesus joined in the summer of 2022 and fans will never forget the incredible immediate impact he made, helping elevate Arsenal to genuine title contenders.

But injuries have unfortunately plagued his time in North London, and now it makes complete sense for all parties to move on.
