2 assists, 3 big chances created: Christos Tzolis might have changed Arsenal’s transfer plans after his debut

Most Arsenal fans were excited about seeing Bruno Guimaraes’ debut today but it turned out fellow new signing, Christos Tzolis, stole the show.

Guimaraes played well in the 45 minutes he had on the pitch but it was the performance of Tzolis down the left-hand side that caught the eye.

A £34m signing this summer, Tzolis arrived to be a big part of the squad but has had to live with talk of another player arriving in his position since arriving.

Nevertheless, Tzolis produced when given his chance today and ultimately, showed just why the Gunners shelled out to land him.

Christos Tzolis’ impressive debut stats for Arsenal v Man City

For all the talk of Vinicius Jr potentially signing this summer and talk continuing of another new signing arriving, it was important for Tzolis to show his worth today.

And show his worth he did.

He became the first Arsenal player to create two goals on his debut and was a constant menace down the left-hand side.

He created a game high three big chances, managed to take six key touches in the opposition box, and also helped out defensively.

Tzolis managed four ball recoveries and won three tackles, while also winning two fouls and completing over 83% of his passes.

It was a debut to remember for Tzolis and a timely reminder to everyone at the club that he has come to North London to play second fiddle to anyone.

He was an immediate upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli, while the performance in general might well lead to Arsenal changing their plans for the rest of the window.
