Declan Rice once made a prediction about Myles Lewis-Skelly that has now come true
Myles Lewis-Skelly has had an interesting six months at Arsenal.
Up until April, the teenager had only started a handful of games for the Gunners, and that gave rise to speculation about his future.
Multiple reports claimed that Arsenal could sell Lewis-Skelly in the summer, but nothing happened.
The reason? Declan Rice’s prediction about the youngster came true.
Declan Rice’s prediction about Myles Lewis-Skelly’s position has come true
When Myles Lewis-Skelly broke into the Arsenal first team in the 2024/25 season, he was used as a left-back.
The teenager was absolutely incredible in that position and produced a number of top-class performances against the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester City.
In the second half of that season, the Arsenal academy graduate had impressed so much that many people viewed him as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back ahead of Riccardo Calafiori.
However, Rice saw the future back then and predicted that Lewis-Skelly would eventually end up in midfield.
He said: “I think the way the manager plays with the rolled inside left-back suits Myles to a tee.
“I think he will eventually be a midfielder and he’s got all the capabilities to play number six, number eight, wherever he wants really.”
That prediction has come true.
Lewis-Skelly has excelled in midfield since he got that opportunity against Fulham last season, and he has been a regular in that role.
The Arsenal number 49 has started each of their three Premier League games and has been one of the best players each time.
Yes, left-back is still an option for Lewis-Skelly if Arsenal really need him there, but for now, we think the role he is playing in the middle of the park is perfect.
Bruno Guimaraes needs to work to displace Myles Lewis-Skelly
Arsenal signed Bruno Guimaraes for £75 million in the summer transfer window.
The expectation has been that the Brazilian will partner Declan Rice in the middle of the park, with Lewis-Skelly, Martin Zubimendi and others playing second fiddle.
However, Lewis-Skelly’s performances in midfield so far have been so good that we don’t think Guimaraes can walk straight back into the starting lineup.
The former Toon skipper will have to wait, work hard and earn his spot back, but if Lewis-Skelly continues to impress, he should keep his place.
