Confirmed: Arsenal sign James Scanlon following Manchester United departure; given number 63 shirt

Arsenal have completed the signing of James Scanlon following his departure from Manchester United, the club have confirmed.

Usually deployed as a left winger, Scanlon can also play on the opposite flank or as an attacking midfielder.

Although born in England he has Gibraltan heritage via his mother and has represented the latter nation 24 times at senior level, scoring five goals.

The 19-year-old (he turns 20 next month) is set to go into Arsenal’s U21 squad this season and has senior experience at club level having featured for Swindon town on loan last season.

Scanlon didn’t play competitively for United at senior level but was named on the bench against Real Sociedad in the Europa League in March 2025.
