David Ornstein provides fresh Gabriel Martinelli update after £38.4m Galatasaray offer

David Ornstein provides fresh Gabriel Martinelli update after £38.4m Galatasaray offer

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has no desire to join Galatasaray during the ongoing transfer window, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The Brazil international has been linked with a move away from the Gunners this summer, with the hierarchy actively looking to sign a marquee left winger.

Galatasaray made a formal offer worth £38.4 million earlier this week, and it has since been claimed that the Gunners are looking for £51.3m to sell the 25-year-old.

However, Ornstein now reports that Martinelli’s camp have informed the Gunners that the winger has no desire to join the reigning Turkish champions.

Arsenal are open to selling Martinelli, but the winger is not pushing to leave. His current deal expires in June 2027, but there is an option for another year.

Arsenal may have to wait for lucrative interest in Martinelli

The Brazilian made 18 goal contributions for the Gunners last season, but the left winger had a limited impact in the Premier League with one goal and four assists to his name.

Martinelli played second fiddle to Leandro Trossard for the league games last term. Trossard has left for Besiktas, but summer signing Christos Tzolis has been hugely impressive.

Tzolis made three goal contributions and won a penalty in pre-season. He is an obvious frontrunner for the left wing position for the new campaign unless a marquee signing arrives.

As things stand, Martinelli may feel he can compete with Tzolis for a starting spot. It seems he could stay put unless a lucrative transfer offer comes in before the September 1 deadline.

A move to Serie A could be a tempting prospect for Martinelli. Juventus and Roma are said to be interested, but the latter may not pursue him due to his current weekly wages.

Martinelli reportedly earns a net salary of £6m per year in the UK, £2.6m per year more than the current salary cap set by the Friedkin Group. Roma are unlikely to afford his present salary.

It remains to be seen whether Juventus or any other elite European club make an offer. As of now, the 25-year-old looks poised to start the new campaign under manager Mikel Arteta.
