Six transfers Arsenal can complete before deadline passes as Julian Alvarez saga concludes

Arsenal are expected to be very busy in the final two days of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners' activity over the past few months can largely be deemed a success. Sporting director Andrea Berta has made five signings worth £200million, with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Ezri Konsa all expected to slot into the starting line-up seamlessly.

Arsenal are still in search of their marquee forward signing, however, having fallen short in their pursuit of both Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior. Their focus presently is on bringing in Atletico Madrid's £128m-rated star man, Julian Alvarez, in the final stages of the window.

There is also an imminent signing that Arsenal are set to announce, while the rest of their activity revolves around players leaving. Now, football.london takes a look at the six deals Mikel Arteta's side can still get over the line.

Gabriel Martinelli is expected to complete his move to Saudi Arabia shortly. It was reported last week that Arsenal had accepted a bid in excess of £50m from Al-Hilal.

Despite there being very few updates in recent days, the deal is not understood to have hit a snag and his permanent exit is in its final stages. Martinelli will leave as the Gunners’ record sale, having joined from Brazilian fourth-tier side Ituano in 2019 for just £6m. The Brazilian winger departs north London as a Premier League champion, having played a key part in the project.

With just hours left of the transfer window, the Alvarez saga still doesn’t seem to have been resolved. Reports on the weekend claimed Atletico Madrid demanded a final decision from the player by Sunday amid the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Alvarez and his inner circle last week held a five-hour meeting to decide whether the Argentine forward would join Arsenal or stay at Atletico, with his dream move to Barcelona having been blocked by Atleti bosses. Neither option particularly appeals to the 26-year-old World Cup winner, who doesn’t want to return to England and has seen his relationship with Atletico fans break down, having been jeered by his own supporters last weekend.

As it stands, reports suggest a transfer to Arsenal is Alvarez’s least preferred option, as he already told Arteta directly that he doesn’t want to join. But, until the player or Atletico confirm his decision, there is always a chance for a late twist, courtesy of some deadline day Berta magic.

It is still uncertain whether Ethan Nwaneri will leave Arsenal before the window closes. Earlier this summer, the 19-year-old was said to be keen for a move elsewhere in order to receive the valuable minutes that will likely elude him this season.

But the highly-rated midfielder’s departure has become more complicated, with Sky Sports reporting he wants to stay in north London unless an attractive offer arrives from another Premier League side. Nwaneri is not keen on moving abroad again following his miserable loan stint at Marseille earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s stance is that they would prefer to send him out on loan, though they will reportedly consider a permanent offer if the fee is too good to turn down. Arteta himself admitted earlier this month that it makes little sense for Nwaneri to stay, given the competition for a place in midfield and the youngster’s need to receive more minutes in order to develop.

Following reports of several clubs being interested in the teenager, there could still be a late loan move on the cards for the Hale End graduate.

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of 17-year-old Georgian wonderkid Andria Bartishvili. Fabrizio Romano claims the attacking midfielder, dubbed ‘the next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’, will undergo his medical on Monday.

It comes after the Gunners agreed a deal worth 4.5m euros (£3.85m) for the teenager. However, Bartishvili can only join up with the Premier League champions once he turns 18 next year.

One of the most tiresome transfer sagas of the entire window has been Fabio Vieira’s potential exit. Hamburg want the player, who very clearly has no future at Arsenal under Arteta, after he impressed for the Bundesliga side on loan last term.

And it now appears a deal is imminent after it was reported on Sunday that the German club are in advanced talks to buy Vieira for £8.6million. It is claimed that there's a growing expectation in north London for a deal to be done before Tuesday's deadline, making this one of the more likelier deals to happen before 11pm tomorrow.

Another player Arsenal have struggled to find buyers for this summer is veteran striker Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian’s lofty wage demands have reportedly put off various prospective buyers, including Napoli and Turkish clubs.

However, reports on Sunday claimed that the Gunners have now agreed an £8.57million deal with Barcelona for the star. It is believed he will undergo a medical at the Nou Camp today (Monday) before completing the move.
