2 Arsenal players make Teams of the Week for Sunderland win

Arsenal won a tough game away at Sunderland on Saturday, and the performance didn’t particularly lend itself to individual awards.

Of the two goalscorers, one was second-half substitute Bruno Guimaraes, and the other was Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot after a relatively middling performance – by his standards.

So perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising the Team of the Week picks instead came from the Arsenal defence, which kept another clean sheet in the 2-0 victory.

The BBC’s Troy Deeney selected Ezri Konsa for his side, writing that the former Aston Villa man “stepped up” to the task of a “tough old battle against Brian Brobbey“.

Konsa obviously did concede a penalty in the second half, but Deeney wasn’t holding that against the centre-back, saying only: “That penalty was never a penalty.”

Then WhoScored included Konsa’s centre-back partner Gabriel Magalhaes, handing the Brazilian a 7.93 rating.

Perhaps the one player who can feel hard done by is David Raya, who saved that Sunderland penalty and made a few other key saves and high claims. The goalkeeper also remains one of the best around with his feet, and that was evident again on Saturday.

Raya jointly leads the Premier League’s clean sheet tally for the season, along with Hull City’s Konstantinos Tzolakis. Raya is aiming to win his fourth consecutive Golden Glove in 2026/27.
