Barcelona considering bid for Arsenal star as Julian Alvarez alternative

Barcelona are effectively the nemesis for Arsenal right now in their protracted pursuit of Julian Alvarez.

The Gunners are willing to spend big on Alvarez but are finding a deal hard to get done, with the player himself seemingly insistent on signing for Barcelona or nobody.

For Arsenal, it means a patient game being played until the last few days of the window when they will hope certain cards start to fall.

However, in what could be an intriguing twist in the tale for Arsenal, Alvarez and Barcelona, the Catalan club are now said to be considering one of Arsenal’s men as an alternative.

Barcelona have Viktor Gyokeres on their transfer wishlist

For all the noise around Alvarez to Barcelona, it’s getting to the point where it feels like they can’t do the deal.

However, in what is a somewhat shocking twist, the BBC’s Sami Mokbel has claimed that the Catalan club are privately accepting they can’t sign Alvarez.

Instead, they have drawn up a list of transfer targets that includes Arsenal star, Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres is currently playing second fiddle to Kai Havertz in terms of being the top number nine at The Emirates.

The Swedish striker had a successful first season but there remains doubts among some that he is the striker Arsenal need to take them to the next level.

Of course, should Barcelona make their move for Gyokeres, then this surely opens the door for Arsenal to try and convince Alvarez that they are the team for him.

With so much at stake here and huge sums likely to be traded, we could be in for a thrilling end to the window.

Gyokeres, meanwhile, will surely consider Barcelona, especially if he knows he’s not going to be the main man this season.
