Confirmed: Igor Tyjon joins Arsenal from Blackburn

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers in a deal reported to be worth £1 million, with a further £2 million in potential add-ons.

The 18-year-old striker, who has been on the Gunners’ radar for well over a year, strengthens the academy’s attacking options and is expected to challenge for a regular starting place at under-21 level.

Tyjon joined Blackburn from Rochdale in 2023 and signed scholarship terms a year later. He went on to make three senior appearances for the Ewood Park club before rejecting the offer of a professional contract.

The son of Polish parents, Tyjon was included in England’s squad for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup and has since represented the under-18s.

On moving to Arsenal, he said: “Who doesn’t want to join the champions? I can’t wait to be part of the team.

“The pathway, the staff, the players, everything about it, it’s just top. I’m excited to meet the group, meet the players, hit the ground running and have a good season.”

Tyjon is the second academy signing of the summer following the arrival of Elijah Upson. It’s believed Cardiff City’s Axel Donczew and Manchester United pair James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye will follow in due course.

Earlier this week, Arsenal confirmed that Northern Ireland under-17 international Phoenix Blayney will join the 2027/28 scholarship intake after signing a pre-contract agreement. The 15-year-old keeper joins from Larne FC.
