Arsenal haven't made their annual signing from Chelsea yet and there's a perfect opportunity now

Arsenal have made a bit of a habit of signing players from Chelsea in recent seasons.

It all started with Willian in the summer of 2020, and that was a disaster. Jorginho then arrived two and a half years later, and since then, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke have all swapped blue for the famous red and white.

Arsenal are yet to sign a player from Chelsea in this window, but the Gunners have been linked with a move to land Pedro Neto.

No Arsenal fan really wants that signing, but there is another Chelsea player they should go all out for – Josh Acheampong.

Arsenal should take advantage of Chelsea’s transfer problem and sign Josh Acheampong

Chelsea have found themselves in a familiar situation with their squad size.

The Blues have spent over a billion over the last few years, and they have over 40 players in their squad as a result.

As Chelsea are not in Europe this season, Xabi Alonso would be wise to reduce the size of their squad to 25.

That means the West Londoners, according to BBC Sport, will have to sell 16 players before the start of September.

Of course, Chelsea will not want to lose their very best players, but we’re sure there’s a price for almost everyone else.

Pedro Neto is one of them, but Arsenal should steer clear of him. The Gunners should go for Acheampong instead.

The champions will be without William Saliba for the first few months of the season, while Mikel Arteta has revealed that Jurrien Timber is several weeks away from full fitness as well.

Arsenal are in the market for a versatile defender who can play in the heart of the defence as well as at right-back when required.

Acheampong checks that box perfectly.

The Englishman is still only 20 years old, and he has already played first-team football at centre-half as well as at right-back.

He is tall, strong, excellent on the ball, great in duels, and already has experience playing as an inverted full-back, which suits Mikel Arteta’s system.

Arsenal fans have long been annoyed by the signings they make from Chelsea, but if they can get Acheampong, we’re sure most supporters will be over the moon.

Alonso’s side will most likely resist, but if there ever is a time to take advantage of their squad-size problem, it’s now.
