Arsenal loanee says he was keen to leave as soon as club showed interest

Ethan Nwaneri has completed his move to Borussia Dortmund and insists he was eager to join the German side as soon as he learnt that they wanted to sign him.

Nwaneri faced a season on the bench if he had stayed at Arsenal following his loan spell at Olympique Marseille in the second half of last season. The youngster now has an opportunity to continue his development with a new team.

Arsenal value Nwaneri highly, but they have more experienced players in his position, meaning he would have found it difficult to get regular opportunities if he had remained with the Gunners.

Nwaneri chooses Dortmund move

Arsenal had been reluctant to allow Nwaneri to leave on loan because they wanted him to stay and improve their squad depth. However, the interest from BVB made sense, considering the German side has a fine reputation for developing young players.

Nwaneri has joined Dortmund because an important player suffered a long-term injury, meaning Arsenal are sure he will get a lot of game time with the German team. The move should give him the regular football he would have struggled to find at Arsenal.

BVB is a team that most young players would love to join, and Nwaneri was clearly enthusiastic about the opportunity. He revealed that he was ready to make the move as soon as he became aware of Dortmund’s interest.

Nwaneri was ready to leave

Speaking to the club’s media team, Nwaneri explained how quickly the transfer developed after Dortmund made their interest known. His comments show that he had little hesitation about taking up the opportunity.

“As soon as I had the interest and I had the meeting, things developed extremely fast.

“As soon as I heard of the interest, I was ready to go.”

The move provides Nwaneri with the chance to gain valuable experience and regular playing time away from Arsenal. Dortmund will hope he can make an immediate contribution while continuing to develop as a player.

For Arsenal, allowing Nwaneri to leave gives him an opportunity to play regularly while remaining a highly valued young player. His development in Germany will now be closely followed as he begins this new chapter with Borussia Dortmund.
