Joshua Sesay offers encouragement for Arsenal U18s

It has been a concerning start to the season for Arsenal U18s, who have taken just one point from their first two games.

In the defeat to Ipswich Town on Saturday, Arsenal were somewhat vulnerable defensively.

There were, however, some encouraging signs with regards to the team’s attacking play.

Emerson Nwaneri is really starting to thrive at this level, with the attacking midfielder scoring with one effort and striking the crossbar with another.

Another first year scholar, Joshua Sesay, is looking to establish himself in the starting lineup for the U18s.

Signed from Millwall as a schoolboy, the versatile attacker found the net with regularity for Arsenal at U16 level.

The step up to U18s football is always a significant one, with Sesay having featured as a substitute in the first two games of the season.

Against Ipswich the 16-year-old, who was deployed out wide, was especially lively following his introduction as he showcased his directness and technical ability.

The competition for places will intensify when Arsenal secure the expected signing of Axel Donczew from Cardiff City as well as forwards Mylo Bernard and Vincent Joseph from Crystal Palace and Liverpool respectively.

Sesay, though, will be eager to prove that he deserves as many opportunities as possible and he could receive another opportunity to impress when the U18s start their Premier League Cup campaign against Blackburn Rovers.
