Christos Tzolis says Arsenal had a 'very underrated player' but he was released for free

Christos Tzolis had been following Arsenal long before the Gunners signed him.

The 24-year-old attacker is no stranger to the Premier League, having played for Norwich City for a year. He also watched the English top flight while growing up.

When an Arsenal player is asked to name the club’s greatest-ever footballer, the obvious answer is Thierry Henry.

Tzolis said the same, but he also named two other footballers from a more recent time: Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez.

Arsenal fans love Cazorla to this day.

Arsene Wenger signed the Spain international from Malaga in the summer of 2012, and he hit the ground running in the famous red and white.

Cazorla went on to play 180 games for Arsenal in all competitions, but his six-year stay at the club ended because of injuries.

The Gunners released the midfielder at the end of his contract in 2018, and he left the club without a proper farewell, which is something fans regret even today.

However, every supporter will agree that Cazorla was a gem of a player when he was fit. Even Christos Tzolis is a big fan of him.

In an interview on Sky Sports, the Greek winger was asked to name who he thinks is Arsenal’s greatest-ever player.

He replied: “Of course it’s Thierry Henry. He is the best!

“I will also go for a more recent one: I really liked Cazorla. Santi Cazorla was unbelievable here. Alexis Sanchez as well.

“They were more my generation. I could watch more (of them), because I couldn’t watch Henry a lot. But I’ve seen the clips on YouTube, and he was unbelievable.

“Cazorla was unbelievable. He was, I think, a very underrated player.”
