Roberto De Zerbi Confirms Tottenham Are Not Done In Transfer Market As Omar Marmoush Move Closes In
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed the club still has business to complete this summer after signing Savio from Manchester City.
The Brazilian winger will wear the number 17 shirt at Spurs following his £85 million switch from City to North London.
De Zerbi has been strongly linked with a move for Egypt international Omar Marmoush, who also plays for Manchester City under Enzo Maresca.
When asked whether a second City forward could be on his way, De Zerbi kept his cards close to his chest ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against Charlton Athletic.
“I don’t know. It’s not right to talk about the players in other teams,” De Zerbi said when pressed on the possibility of Marmoush joining Savio at Spurs.
Despite the cagey response, the Italian manager was far more open about Tottenham’s broader transfer ambitions and the work still to be done before the window closes.
“Just to say, I am very happy. We have not finished yet in the transfer market. It is an important part,” De Zerbi told reporters at his press conference.
“So far, we have had a great signings. Great players and personalities. But you don’t win the game with big-name players. We have to deserve to win games.”
Reports suggest Tottenham have reached a broad agreement of close to £70 million plus add-ons to sign the 27-year-old Marmoush, who has already agreed personal terms with the club.
Marmoush was spotted in Manchester City training on Monday before being named among the substitutes for the 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.
If Marmoush completes his move, Tottenham’s summer spending would rise to close to £400 million across eight new signings, representing a dramatic shift in transfer policy at the club.
De Zerbi also spoke about his plans to improve Savio’s goal output, suggesting the 22-year-old has the qualities to match the best wingers in world football.
“If you analyze the best wingers in the world they score 10-15 goals a season and he has the qualities. Maybe it’s a habit and he has to get the habit. We need to increase the chances to score,” De Zerbi said.
The Italian manager also revealed that Xavi Simons played a key role in convincing Savio to make the move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
