“Personal situations” Arteta explains why Gabriel Jesus is not playing at Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has been missing from Arsenal’s squad for their matches this season, and Mikel Arteta has spoken about his current situation at the club.

One of the worst-kept secrets at the Emirates is that the club wants him and Gabriel Martinelli to leave in this transfer window, and both players have suitors. When players are leaving, clubs avoid situations that could jeopardise a deal, mostly injuries, so it is understandable why Arsenal have not been involving them in matches.

Jesus faces uncertain Arsenal future

There are a few days left before the transfer window closes, and Jesus and Martinelli should be back in the team next week if they do not secure moves away. However, that is not what the club wants, with Arsenal continuing to have enough cover in attack.

Jesus is behind Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in the pecking order at the Emirates this season. The striker will therefore be looking to leave the club so he can play this season, knowing that regular opportunities are unlikely if he stays at Arsenal.

His situation means the coming days could be important. A move away would give Jesus the chance to find regular football elsewhere, while Arsenal would be able to continue reshaping their attacking options.

Arteta addresses Jesus’ situation

Speaking about Jesus, Arteta said via Hayters:

“Well, it’s something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad at the moment and the way we’re managing that kind of situation individually with all the players that have some personal situations.”

Arteta’s comments suggest that Arsenal are managing Jesus’ situation alongside those of other players with individual circumstances. The decision not to involve him appears to be linked to the current size of the squad and the club’s approach to players whose futures remain uncertain.

For Jesus, the priority will be finding a solution before the transfer window closes. His position behind Havertz and Gyokeres means remaining at Arsenal could leave him with limited opportunities to play.

Arsenal will also want to avoid any complications while negotiations continue. With only a few days remaining, Jesus has a limited amount of time to secure a move and begin the season with a club where he can play more regularly.

If no transfer is completed, he could return to the squad next week, but Arsenal’s preference appears to be for the striker to find a new club before the window closes.
